Travelling with a Toddler: 5 Top Tips

Travelling with a Toddler can feel like preparing for this crazy expedition. But fear not! I’m about to drop some life-saving tips on you, so pay close attention. Here are a few tricks to turn your travel woes into giggles and make the trip a breeze for both of you!

1 PACK SNACKS

One thing you absolutely shouldn’t underestimate is the power of a hangry toddler! Always remember to pack snacks. Not only will this keep your little ones busy, but it’ll also save you from a potential tiny riot if the airplane food doesn’t meet their tastes. And hey, while you usually can’t bring liquids, kid-friendly exceptions like powdered milk, cartons, or pre-mixed formulas are A-OK.

I had a hilarious “food revolt” situation with my son once, and let me tell you, it was a mini-drama. So, if you know you’ve got a picky eater on your hands, don’t gamble with the in-flight menu. It’s definitely better to be safe than to have a snack-snatching mutiny on your hands!

Make sure you check with your airline about what food they allow!

2 SPACE SAVING

First and foremost, preparation is key. Create a checklist of essential items to pack for your little one, including diapers, wipes, a change of clothes, snacks, and comforting toys. Having everything you need at hand will help alleviate any stress during your journey.

Hand luggage! When it comes to packing diapers, remember not to go overboard. Allow yourself 4 diapers per day of travel, because let’s face it, you can always stock up on diapers wherever you end up! This way, you’ll have more space for all the other must-haves.

STROLLERS AND CAR SEATS

Strollers are the ultimate VIPs of the airline world – they fly for free! Yes, you heard it right! You can bring your kiddo’s trusty stroller without shelling out any extra cash. Trust me, it’s a game-changer! Just imagine those tiny legs getting a well-deserved break on those marathon journeys. Oh, and for the bigger munchkins, fear not! There are alternative options to keep them cruising in comfort too.

COMFY CLOTHES

Dress your little one in attire that screams “comfort”! Choose something as breezy as a cool summer’s day and easy to swap out of, just in case mischief strikes!

ENTERTAINMENT

Bring on the entertainment! Whether it’s sticker books, puzzles, or even colouring books, make sure to pack something that will keep them occupied. And hey, don’t forget to download their favourite movies and games ready for some screen time in moderation.

Remember, packing something new that they’ve never played with before can work wonders. It keeps their attention longer than the everyday toys.

And don’t hesitate to ask for help! If you ever need assistance with anything, many of the staff members are more than willing to help, especially when it comes to parents with young children.

While we can’t micromanage every moment, there are a few things you can steer in the right direction to make your journey a tad less chaotic.

Don’t forget to be flexible and patient. Traveling with a little one can be unpredictable, so being adaptable to their needs and remaining calm in unexpected situations is important. Embracing the adventure and making the most of the quality time spent together will turn the journey into a cherished memory for both of you.
